It is very disturbing to see the amount of backlash that Varun Gandhi has been subjected to, for saying that any force that attacks the Hindus will be cut down to size. This statement apparently has angered various political and "secular" (read non-hindu) organizations in the country, who perceive this statement to be directed against a particular community -- to create religion based wars.
I fail to understand, why this statement necessarily indicates an aggressive intent against any particular community in general. All that Varun is talking about is that if anyone attacks the Hindus, the Hindus should be defended against to squash the aggressor.
Is it not the responsibility of a country to protect its citizens??
Does the secular Government of India not recognise the Hindus as its citizens?
Why is it not the duty of the Government of India to defend them from aggressive elements.
Is it illegal for any citizen to step-in to protect others?
Why, then is it a crime to say that one should defend the Hindus, if they are under attack by someone?
